APRIL: Take a Trip to the Caribbean

Thank you Beyoncé for this amazing picture of Blue Ivy in Jamaica and for our spicy song of the month, “Drunk in Love.”

Everyone in New York agrees this winter has been brutal.

So, us Sanctuary Beauties have concocted a plan to transport you to the warm sands and smooth waters of the caribbean. Chose any island as your fave (Kate loves them all), grab your #surfbort and imagine your ab series on the beach with a rum punch. Jimmy Buffet gets checked at the door. Welcome to Jamrock.

Recipe of the Month:
  • 1 oz. Light Rum
  • 1 oz. Dark Rum
  • .5 oz. Coconut Rum
  • 4 oz. Orange Juice
  • 4 oz. Pineapple Juice
  • Splash of Grenadine
  • .5 oz. Fresh Lime Juice

Combine all ingredients and pour over ice. Garnish with a cherry and an orange wedge. Pro tip: enjoy with friends and workout beforehand.

February and March Theme:

Classic Rock with Classic Moves!

All February and March, we’re keeping the studio warm with some classical hot moves that we don’t get to do so often. (Jacknife and Twist II, anyone?) All while rocking out to your favorite 70’s classic rock bands.

Pop-Up Shop with Chloe and Isabel:

We’re excited to host this lovely jewelry line this Thursday, February 20th at 6pm! Come in before the 7pm mat class and pick up something nice for yourself or someone else. We’ll be there!

Apprentice Teacher Sesisons:

Our reformer trainee group from this winter will be looking for participants to complete their apprentice teaching hours. A 55-minute private session with an apprentice teacher is only $35! If you’ve wanted to try the machines but have been intimidated by the price, now’s your opportunity! Contact the studio to book a session or a handful of sessions- limited space is available.

Every drag queen knows that the secret to staying runway ready is trimming down, not bulking up.  So this month, we bring you TRANTOBER- a month filled with exercises designed by Kate to get your skinny on.  Ready. Set. Lashes.

BANG BANG! It’s CHERtember at Sanc!



It’s Chertember at Sanctuary!

In honor of Cher’s “Closer to the Truth” album release on SEPTEMBER 25TH, we’re celebrating the timeless, legendary diva ALL MONTH LONG! Wig up!

If we could Turn Back Time, we’d go right back to 1977 and ask Farrah and Cher exactly how they scored these svelte mannequin bods!



But our Sanc super powers aren’t Strong Enough for time travel.  So we’ll just have to Believe that rockin’ Sanc workouts One by One will get us in head-to-toe sequin shape in no time! Our Cher-inspired workouts will have you slinging those guns Just Like Jesse James and stealing hearts just like (you guessed it) Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves!

Try this side leg series with light ankle weights (no more than 2lbs).  Because After All, when it comes to workin’ it like Cher, it’s really All or Nothing.

So if you’re thinking, “All I Really Want to Do is rock out in a cut-out leotard and fierce wig because I was Born with the Hunger to be fabulous,” we definitely Got You, Babe. Grab your boatful of sailors and your thigh-high fishnets and get your diva butt in here!

Sanc Pil will make you JUMP!

Can you think of a more thrilling way to get that blood pumpin’, burn extra cals, and tone your bod other than jumping? We can’t. Throw on your baggiest pants (backwards, of course) and JUMP!




Aside from the countless ways in which jumping around is just plain fun, there are also TONS of health benefits.  Not to mention, it is a super efficient way to reap all the benefits of cardiovascular training.  In just 10 minutes of jumping, you can achieve the same cardio benefits as you would running for 33 minutes!

Not sold on jumping yet? Check this- bouncing stimulates the lymphatic system which rids your body of toxins, bacteria, and viruses.  So jumping will literally shake your immune system into high gear!

Still not convinced? It’s easy to see how jumping would tone up your muscles, but did you know working against gravity actually strengthens all body systems? That means the muscle fibers of your heart get stronger and stronger with each bounce, digestion improves, and even your skin cells get a work out.

So try the Sanctuary Jump Challenge this month! We’ll be doing it in the studio and encouraging you all to do it at home:

12 jumps with legs in parallel, feet hip distance apart
12 jumps with externally rotated legs, heels together & toes apart (first position)
12 jumps with externally rotated legs, heels spread wide apart (second position)
12 jumps with externally rotated legs, heels spread wide apart (second position)
12 jumps with externally rotated legs, heels together & toes apart (first position)
12 jumps with legs in parallel, feet hip distance apart

Repeat the whole thing 2 or 3 times for an extra push!

Sunless tanning with VEGETABLES!

Who doesn’t love a bronzed look in the summertime? What we don’t like is the skin damage and premature aging.  This summer, get that healthy glow by eating right!

We all know that a healthy diet makes our skin look great.  But a recent study conducted in Great Britain has actually shown that diets rich in carotenoids give skin the same vibrancy that a couple hours in the sun does! Spinach, carrots, tomatoes, and plums are all super healthy ways to boost the carotenoid deposited under your skin and make you look like a bronzed beach goddess!

The best part? A diet rich in produce crushes free radicals that cause wrinkles! So put down the Banana Boat and pick up a carrot. You literally have nothing to lose (other than a couple pounds and fine lines)!

Don’t feel like waiting for the carrots to kick in? If you’re local, head on over to Benefit on 3rd Ave (between 74th and 75th) for the best spray tan of your life!

Sanctuary is feeling BOOTYLICIOUS

Ain’t no time better than July to work on lifting that booty.  That’s why this month is all about butts here at Sanc.  Get ready to bridge, lunge, swim, and double-leg kick for your life! And our challenge for each and every client: 36 front lunges, and 36 side lunges EVERY DAY!

In our group classes and private sessions, we’ll take the time to focus on your behind because while we like to see you coming, we LOVE to watch you going.  Stick with us, and you’ll have a butt that’s Jay-Z smack-worthy in no time!

And isn’t that everyone’s dream?



Welcome Summer!

Summer has arrived, and we’re kickin’ it off in traditional Sanc Style— with lots of FUN!


This month in private sessions, group classes, and workshops we’ll all be focusing on going upside down! Sound scary? It’s not! Inverting can be as simple as a roll down or a downward dog, and the benefits are endless.  Aside from the obvious balance and focus enhancing attributes, inversions are a fantastic way to improve circulation, relieve stress, strengthen ligaments, and reduce pain in overworked muscles.  We want you to experience all of these things! So join us in our month-long celebration of anti-gravity and before you know it, you’ll be walking to Starbucks on your hands.



We’ve kicked off our first round of our Summer Silks Series and (not to toot our own horn)— IT’S AWESOME!  We’ve been brushing up on our basics, learning new skills, and gaining all kinds of confidence.  Imagine facing something you never thought you could do, and then doing it! With Lara’s expert guidance, you’ll be climbing to the top of those silks in no time.  And besides feeling empowered, you’ll be sculpting that bikini bod!

Sanctuary Silks Workshop Series

Looking to take your workouts to the next level? Here at Sanctuary, we’re doing just that… literally!

In March, we kicked off our first Sanctuary Silks Workshop Series, and it was a blast! As the workshop began, our daring aerialists bravely faced their fears as they learned the basics of aerial silk work. By the end of the three week series, the studio was filled with high-flying pros!

Each class began with a Pilates-based warm up to establish a strong connection with stabilization muscles and to fire up those abs! After the warm up, students moved to the silks and began with basic single foot locks and drop preps. Before they knew it, everyone was wowing each other and themselves with aerial tricks like hip hangs and gazelles.

With encouragement from Kate, Lara, and each other, everyone found their inner aerialist daredevil and discovered that they are strong in ways they had never imagined. Student, Tammra, described the workshop as, “Fun but very challenging,” adding that, “It’s tough.” That fun challenge is exactly what makes the Sanctuary Silks Workshop Series an inspiring way to overcome self-doubt and change up your workout!
